Advance praise for Grace Shiver:

“All too rarely a collection of poems deeply reminds me of why I love to read poetry. Grace Shiver is such a book. Cathy Stonehouse’s range and wrestle with the intractable interdependence of narrative and death is stunning.”

“Stonehouse takes us on a poetic journey laden with visceral and startlingly vivid images.”
—Fiona Tinwei Lam, author of Intimate Distances and Enter the Chrysanthemum, editor of The Bright Well: Contemporary Canadian Poems about Facing Cancer.

“A powerful, searing book of poems that resonates with the reader long after the last page has been read.”
—Rishma Dunlop, author of White Album, Metropolis, Reading Like A Girl and editor of White Ink: Poems on Mothers and Motherhood.

I’m delighted to be “headlining” for the SFU Writers Studio Reading Series this coming Friday, November 11, at Take 5 Cafe in downtown Vancouver at Granville and Hastings. The event kicks off at 7pm with readings from an enticing list of other writers, including Ingrid Rose, and ends promptly at 9pm. I plan to read from Something About the Animal, and to wear (if I can find it) my white peace poppy.

I’m also thrilled to be reading at the downtown Vancouver Public Library branch on Wednesday November 23, 7:30 pm, as part of a Biblioasis evening hosted by the Incite reading series. The wonderful Rebecca Rosenblum will be there, as will Ray Robertson, whose latest nonfiction title, Why Not? Fifteen Reasons to Live is shortlisted for the Writers Trust Nonfiction Award.

And last but not least, I will be launching my new collection of poetry, Grace Shiver, published by Inanna Publications, at People’s Co-op Books on Commercial Drive the evening of Friday, January 27 (tbc). The book should be in my hands in a couple of weeks, and I can’t wait.

Without them, much less would grow. On Thursday October 26th I will be reading, alongside the other previous editors, at the 40th Anniversary Party hosted by current editor Liz Bachinsky. Free! Snacks! As it says on the invitation—so do come join us. Or buy a copy of the mag so you can at least see Liz’s amazing graphic timeline, and read the editors’ picks of poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction.

Life has been very busy in the non-literary parts of my life lately, which has resulted in a long gap between postings–something I vowed I would never allow to happen! Alas, I am mortal. The main news now is that on Sunday I am off to Ontario for a week’s whirlwind book tour in the grand company of two other Bibliodames, Rebecca Rosenblum and Laura Boudreau. Details of our readings can be found on the home page. So if you are in Ontario on Oct 2 (Windsor), Oct 3 (London), Oct 4 (Hamilton), Oct 5 (Toronto) or Oct 6 (Ottawa), or in Montreal on Oct 7, do join us. I will post comments and pictures (e.g. gorgeous fall foliage) and other bookish thoughts en route and on my return, at which point Grace Shiver will be almost out. Which makes me shiver, gracefully.

Meanwhile check Rob McLennan’s blog shortly for my answers to his 12-20 questions.
