There’s a clipping on my mother-in-law’s fridge: “I’ve given up trying to get ahead so I can concentrate on slowing down the rate I’m falling behind.” I’m so far behind here I will leave updating on the tour until a little later and move right along to the next big event: Event, the magazine I edited between 2001 and 2004, is unbelievably turning 40 (wasn’t it only a few years ago we put that 30th anniversary issue together?) “Small” but powerful lit mags like Event are the rich hummus of Canadian literature. Without them, much less would grow. On Thursday October 26th I will be reading, alongside the other previous editors, at the 40th Anniversary Party hosted by current editor Liz Bachinsky. Free! Snacks! As it says on the invitation—so do come join us. Or buy a copy of the mag so you can at least see Liz’s amazing graphic timeline, and read the editors’ picks of poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction.
