This is the title of the novel I am currently reading, by Edward St. Aubyn–the brilliant, excoriating follow-up to his Patrick Melrose series–and is also the way I feel about the upcoming publication of my second collection of poetry, Grace Shiver, due out this October with Inanna Press. I will receive the galleys shortly and am excited to think of these poems finally coming into print.
In other news, as they say, I will be participating in a Biblioasis reading tour of Ontario the first week of October, traveling in the company of Rebecca Rosenblum and Laura Boudreau, and reading from Animal. I am thrilled to be in such good company. Details of the tour will be posted shortly. Soon thereafter I will then be celebrating the publication of Grace Shiver, with a launch here in Vancouver and possibly also Toronto (details tba). Various other readings are in the works, so it promises to be a busy fall. I will also be teaching a first-year college level course, Introduction to Writing Fiction at Douglas College’s David Lam campus beginning this September, and offering another Continuing Studies level Creative Non-Fiction class at Langara college.
Lastly, I was excited to be invited to put together a play list for Something About the Animal by David Gutowski of www.largeheartedboy.com, which will be posted there on August 25. Link to follow. I never knew how closely connected music and writing were in my brain, or how hard it would be to come up with ten tracks that relate to the book until completing this. Fun. More soon.
